Energy Agency monitoring certain gas stations known for smuggled fuel- cause of recent car explosions take new twist.

Georgetown- As concerns mount about the recent car explosions and the fear that it may be tainted fuel sold by Guyoil, an official of the Guyana Energy Agency who heads the fuel marking department is not convinced based on his assessment. In a lengthy conversation with the official today it was explained that based on the investigation so far all of the vehicles suffered electrical and mechanical failures which resulted in the fires. All the government vehicles use fuel from Guyoil and to date none went up in flames he contended. He said that within the last two years there have been 65 and 48 car fires according to statistics from the Fire Service, so the recent fires are really nothing to be too concerned about since it has nothing to do with fuel. Information has surfaced that smugglers may be using an additive to replicate GEA fuel markers. The official says while it is not impossible he believes that it may be a case where the markers are still out there as a result of theft. Only recently two employees were dismissed for stealing fuel markers. As it regards smuggling of fuel the official says that known operators involved in the illegal operation are in the GEA’s crosshair. One such operator has five pending court matters for smuggling that continue to be postponed. These cases continue to be dragged out by the defendants lawyers said the official.
