Antigua : Law-enforcers who remain hot on the heels of elusive prison escapee Eduord Bueno Beltran say civilians have reported “sighting” him in the territory this morning (September 12).
The 38-year-old Dominican Republic native, who was serving a year for illegal entry into the BVI, was discovered missing from a cell at Her Majesty’s Prison at Balsam Ghut yesterday morning.
Acting press officer at the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force, Sergeant Carl Mason, told BVI News that cops have not been able to confirm reports that the escapee has been sighted in the territory.
However, he said the force has contacted its counterpart in the Dominican Republic seeking assistance with Beltran’s recapture.
Local police, who are collaborating with other BVI enforcement agencies, are still keeping a close watch at all points of departure.
Beltran was last seen in his cell at Her Majesty’s Prison about eight o’ clock Monday evening.
Following his escape, prison authorities reported that a part of the perimeter fence at the facility was found cut, presumably to facilitate the escape.
Beltran is described as 242 pounds, 5 feet 10 inches, with a light complexion and is not regarded as a danger to the public.
Police are reminding resident’s that harbouring a fugitive is a criminal offence.
