Essequibo to benefit from ICT and new fibre optic cable

Essequibo : PPP/C Presidential Candidate Donald Ramotar at a rally at Anna Regina, Essequibo, assured residents that Essequibo will be benefitting from the merits of improved ICT in Guyana when the fibre optic cable passes through Essequibo all the way to Charity.

“When we bring the cable over here (a new faster cable), we will be able to produce thousands more jobs in call centres to absorb many of the people who are still to be employed today. More than that we will also be able to provide services to companies abroad,” Ramotar said. Ramotar said the current Government once reelected will also be turning its attention to the agriculture sector and continue the venture of increasing the food production scale to promote food security and meeting the demands of the rest of the world.
The plan according to Ramotar includes the introduction into new, talks with the private sector to change the business as usually approach, strengthening governance to ensure that people and companies get a proper return for the money they invest.
He said work has started on the Amaila Falls Hydropower Project (AFHP) and when complete will add value to the processing and manufacturing sectors and significantly reduce the cost of electricity.
