Essequibo’s oldest resident, Lillian Elliot is celebrating her birthday today. Touching 103 years old the centenarian lives in an Amerindian community on the Essequibo Coast where she was born in 1910. The second eldest is 102-year-old May Garraway of Hackney, Lower Pomeroon River. She was born in the year 1911.
Elliot, who still goes to the creek for her bath frequently, said that she relishes ground provision and fish.
Her daughter, Joyce Garraway said that Elliot, said that her mother worked for many years on her farm and consumption of fish with ground provision has routinely become her daily diet.
Essequibo’s centenarians have also shared similar sentiments concerning their diet.
Being the oldest person in her Community and the Region, Elliot is independent when it comes to taking care of her personal needs. However, although she consumes all types of foods she has a healthy appetite. But the centenarian is not allowed to prepare meals. Her daughter Norma Elstob has been caring for her mother.
