EU Launches Human Rights Film Festival

imagesGeorgetown: The European Union Delegation is hosting a Human Rights Film Festival from 30 October to 5 November 2015. The inaugural ceremony took place last evening at the Marriott Hotel and included addresses by the Ambassador of the European Union in Guyana, Jernej Videtič, and Ms Dhanmattie Sohai from the Ministry of Social Protection.

A number of local civil society organisations which are active in promoting human rights in Guyana gave presentations on their work. These organisations included Childlink, SASOD, Camp4Change, Help & Shelter and the Justice Institute.  A tribute to Ms Zenita Nicholson who recently passed away tragically was also done by Joel Simpson of Sasod while a minute of silence was also observed in her honour.
