East Bank Demerara : A Policeman who is also a licensed firearm holder was at Prospect, East Bank Demerara, at around 2pm yesterday conducting investigations into a report of threatening behavior and threatening language involving taxi-driver Samuel La Fleur, 46 years, of Prospect and his mother, when Samuel La Fleur attacked him and took away his licensed firearm.
Samuel La Fleur an ex-soldier went to a neighbouring residence that is occupied by a man with whom he had an earlier misunderstanding and discharged rounds at the building, hitting Onika Lyttle, 32 years, to her right shoulder.
Samuel La Fleur then shot himself to his head. He was rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where he succumbed while receiving medical treatment. A quantity of cannabis sativa (marijuana), a smoking utensil and a medical syringe were found in the room that was occupied by Samuel La Fleur.
Onika Lyttle has been admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Investigations are in progress.
