Georgetown: Public Works Minister with responsibility for the aviation sector said the only EZjet passengers who will be refunded by the Government of Guyana are those who purchased their tickets in Guyana.
Minister Benn, in response to questions asked by the Opposition about the company’s indebtedness to Guyana, salary for staff of the airline and refund for tickets members reiterated that the US$200,000 bond deposit which was lodged by the airline to enter the Guyana market will be used for the refunds of those passengers of the now suspended airline. He explained also that the airline has been able to secure some funds which will also go towards refunds.
The Public Works Minister also pointed out that the airline owes $2.6M to the Cheddi Jagan International Airport and $3.1M to the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority.
EZjet Airline’s licences were suspended in the US and Guyana two months ago following financial difficulties encountered with its founder and CEO Sonny Ramdeo who is now in custody in the United States in connection with a US$20M embezzlement charge.
