Bridgetown.
A third of the students who sat the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) in May to June 2011, obtained no subjects at acceptable grades.
Senior Assistant Registar of Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) Susan Giles made the shocking remark yesterday at the launch of a 15 study guides produced by CXC and the British based publishing house Nelson Thornes, targeting CSEC and Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE).
Giles said with the cost of funding education at the secondary level has increased exponentially, there must be some correlation between candidate performance and the money being spent.
According to Giles, the the CXC's involvement in teacher training workshops across the region showed there was a struggle with the paradigm shift from teacher centred to learner centred education.
