Farmers against milk plan

Bridgetown.

President of the Barbados Dairy and Beef Producers Assocation, Brian Allan say a proposal by the Pine Hill Dairy (PHD) to cut fresh milk production by 30 percent for six months could ruin the dairy farmers.

"There will be no industry left by the end of the year, every farmer would go out of business, my farm would not be able to survive and i have one of the larger farms", Allan told Trakker News.

The members of the Dairy and Beef Producers Assocation are blaming the milk on PHD's suspension of its quota system.

"Our members told them  we still wanted the quota system, now since january this year, they have had a serious excess situation with over $4million in stock in their warehouse which is double the amount they usually carry", says Allan.

The Barbados Dairy and Beef Producers Assocation represents 17 farms who produces five million kilos of milk per year.
