Georgetown : Immediate predecessor to the current Commissioner of Police, Winston Felix, says that the incumbent, Henry Greene, should forthwith do the “Honourable thing,” and tender his resignation in the face of the damning allegations against him. Felix whose term of Office as Top Cop ended in 2006 before Greene took the helm said that the implicated Commissioner is no stranger to troubles of a similar nature. While not delving into details Felix told media operatives while at A Partnership for National Unity’s press briefing today the now Commissioner had been implicated in a similar allegation in 1978 and again in 1994 with the later being of a more violent nature. The Former Commissioner of Police told media operatives that Greene, in the past, had interdicted several ranks from the force for far less breaches even as he explained that the Police Force has procedures for dealing with misconduct of its ranks from Commissioner to Constable.
Felix urges Top Cop to “do the Honourable thing and resign”
He said that as it relates to the ranks that fall below the Top ranked Office then the Commissioner is empowered to establish a committee/commission to investigate the ranks accused of misconduct.
In relation to the commissioner himself, Felix told media operatives that, “one would expect that the decision on the way forward will be taken by those above him.” He drew reference to an incident that involved him during his tenure as Commissioner where he was immediately requested by Prime Minister Samuel Hinds to provide answers as to the allegations. In re-enforcing his conviction that Greene should tender his resignation Felix added, “I do not think that the current commissioner is a stranger to being in hot water…I can recall a similar incident in 1978…I recall another incident at the Officer’s Mess in 1994…and here again there is another very distasteful incident.”
When contacted Greene retorted that Felix firstly has no credibility to be calling for his resignation and refuted any claims of a similar incident in 1978. Greene speaking to the 1994 incident said the accuser did not provide any evidence and the investigation found the allegations to be baseless. He explained that during the course of that investigation the person had come forward but did not want to proceed with the matter as it was found to be baseless.
