A man who was on Sunday seen stealing fertiliser from the Rose Hall Estate was on Tuesday placed on $20,000 bail while his trial has been set for August by Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo. The man was caught following a high-speed chase after he was seen.
Hardat Daramdeo Sukdeo, 32, of lot 1 Reliance, East Canje, Berbice, reportedly fled when cornered by police who received reports that canter truck GKK 1174 was laden with two grade phosphate lime belonging to the Rose Hall Estate.The man was chased from Providence Order Line, East Berbice to Fyrish Corentyne where he was finally caught.
During the chase, two youngsters that were in the truck’s tray were tossing material out of the moving vehicle along the roadway. The lads were not apprehended because they jumped off the truck and fled, as police chased Sukdeo.
Sukdeo was represented by Attorney Rabindranauth Singh, who pleaded for reasonable bail for the charge of simple larceny. The attorney said the stolen items total $18,282, while noting that Sukdeo is married and is the father of two children. He emphasised that he is also the sole breadwinner of his family.
