Port-of-Spain: The Financial Intelligence Unit has responded to Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley, who suggested that the FIU had been used by the Attorney General to grab information on specific citizens.
In a statement issued today, the FIU says it has never received any request from the Attorney General or anyone from the government for the personal or financial information on anyone.
The FIU adds that all its officers are aware of the duty of secrecy and are barred from disclosing the personal or financial information for anyone.
The Opposition Leader has been in recent times brought the FIU under sharp focus, after questioning why its Director Susan Francois was appointed ahead of the Public Service Commission's choice and even suggested that the relationship between Francois and the government be examined.
