Fire at Trinicity Industrial Estate

An early morning fire at the Thermo Flax building in the Trincity Industrial Estate, Macoya, effectively shut down the residential and commercial areas nearby. Though source of the fire is yet to be ascertained, witnesses say a malfunctioning machine inside the strorage facility gave off sparks and soon ignited the plastic products stored nearby. That section of the industrial estate and nearby schools have been evacuated and traffic is being diverted away from the Macoya district.

Thick, black smoke can be seen from as far away the capital, Port of Spain and though there were no immediate injuries, residents fear their children and elderly will be affected in the long term by the fumes from the burning plastic.
