Berbice: On the eve of Christmas, Probation and Welfare Officer Nadine Crawford, 32 years, and three children had just returned to their home at Alness, Corentyne, Berbice, when they were confronted by four men armed with firearms. One of which was fireman Delon Collins.
The men took away jewelry and $62,000.00 from Crawford,but their escape was thwarted by members of the police force. This resulted in a confrontation during which Delon Collins was shot to his chest. Another perpetrator was also shot,but he with the other two managed to escaped.
Collins was pronounced dead on arrival at the Port Mourant Hospital.
