The management of First Citizen Bank is confident that Barbados' economy will rebound.
Deputy Chief Executive Officer Sharan Christopher, of the Trinidad base bank says First Citizens would not have acquired Bank of Butterfield Bank Barbados' opperations if it didn't think Barbados was going to turn around.
"If we had looked at Barbados and said oh, this place is a mess, we would not have taken the decision to come here. Are there difficulties? Of course there are. Has Barbados been going through a difficult? It has been, like many other places. The entire world has gone through a difficult time",says Christopher.
She noted that the bank saw light at the end of the tunnel and believed it could run a successful business here.
Christopher said that Barbadians also must have faith: "All of us as Caribbean people have been through difficult times before and we will again but each time we came through and we will continue to come through", she added.
First Citizen Bank officially started its operations in Barbados last week.
