Georgetown: Justice Claudette Singh, SC, CCH, Monday morning took the Oath to Office as the new Chairman of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM), before His Excellency President David Granger, at the Ministry of the Presidency.
Justice Singh, was selected by President David Granger from a list of Six nominees “not unacceptable” to the President, which was presented to him by Leader of the Opposition, Mr. Bharrat Jagdeo, on July 26, 2019. This appointment is in keeping with the ruling of the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ), for a consensual appointment supported by both the President and the Leader of the Opposition.
Justice Claudette Singh, SC, CCH is the first woman to be appointed of GECOM.
