Five men were arrested yesterday on drug related charges, as the police fight against the drug trade continued across Barbados.
Police public relation office Inspector David Welch told Trakker News that four Barbadian men and a Jamaican male were arrested in various police operations across the island.
Dale Stanford 52, and his 16 year old stepson Darion Cadogan of Durants Village, St. James were arrested at their home, after lawmen found 43 marijuana plants along with an undisclosed quantity of cannabis.
Stanford and Cadogan were charged with possession of cannabis, possession with intent to supply and the trafficking of cannabis,they appeared at the Holetown Magistrate' Court and pleaded guilty to the charges.
Stanford was remanded until March16,when he will be sentence, Cadogan was granted bail in the sum of $25.000 with one surety, he will reappeared in Court on April 27.
Jumielle Thomas, a 24 year old Jamaican was arrested by members of the Drug Squad at the Grantley Adams Airport after he arrived in the island on a flight from Jamaica yesterday.
Thomas was intercepted by Customs Officers and 1.5 pounds of cannabis found in his luggage, he was charged at the District B Magistrate Court with possesion of cannabis, possesion with intent to supply, trafficking cannabis and the importation of cannabis.
He was reprimmanded and discharged after being convicted of trafficking and the importation on cannabis but was slapped with a $10.000 fine forthwith for each of the other two charges or 18 months in jail.
Two other men were by the police on drug related charges yesterday and are due to appear in Court next week.
