Diego Martin: The Diego Martin Regional Corporation says preliminary estimates of the flood damage and losses to residents of Western Trinidad amount to close to $110 million.
Chairman of the Corporation Allan Sammy says over 12 homes were destroyed among other infrastructure in the region.
He says this is a hefty bill which will have to be paid.
Diego Martin is still being classified as a disaster area, following last weekend's vicious floods.
The Corporation says despite extensive relief and restoration efforts the area has not been able to recover from the disaster and as such all emergency services remain in place.
Given the extent of the damages incurred, the Corporation says disaster response, recovery & rehabilitation agencies have been deployed in an effort to ramp up cleaning and restoration efforts that includes teams from Cepep, URP and regional corporations from around the country.
It is warning that the ongoing works may result in periodic disruptions and closure of some roadways and are therefore asking the public to execise caution.
Meanwhile, Works and Infrastructure Minister Emmanuel George has dismissed statements by Diego Martin North East MP Colm Imbert that government's inaction caused the deluge in parts of Western Trinidad.
Following last weekend's devastating floods, Imbert blamed the People's Partnership Government for failing to clear the Diego Martin and Maraval rivers, which he believes was the main cause of the flooding.
