East Coast Demerara – Minister of Transport and Hydraulics, Robeson Benn today visited a number of communities along the East Coast Demerara corridor to evaluate the flood conditions and ensure that interventions are made to bring relief to the residents.
Two additional pumps were deployed to the Friendship/Buxton pump station.
At Buxton, particularly beyond the railway embankment, water is still on the land where many villagers rear livestock and cultivate crops.
The pumps will work around the clock until the situation is alleviated and the Minister added that there has been a 25% movement in the ability to release the water from the village. In Turkeyen, where Minister Benn also visited, the NDIA has an excavator cleaning the canal, which is filled with garbage, to improve the water flow to the Liliendaal pump station.
He noted that in Enterprise and surrounding villages that are also affected by flood waters, pumps have been deployed and pump attendants are working towards pumping the water.
