Georgetown : Agriculture Minister, Robert Persaud said Agriculture Month which will be observed in October will celebrate the achievements of the sector under the theme “Sustaining Food and Nutrition Security in Guyana.”
“This will be the last agriculture month for the current term of the Government and we are using this to show some level of accountability in relation to the commitment made, more so as we look at the manifesto of the PPP/C of 2006,” Minister Persaud told the media.
The ministry’s emphasis on aquaculture, agriculture diversification and its grow more food campaign, whilst not stated in the manifesto, are all successfully launched programmes that have ensured Guyana food security status and enabled farmers the opportunity to penetrate international markets.
“Our achievements outstrip what we have set as a target,” Persaud said and the month’s activities will be a celebration of this fact.
Activities for the month commence with the launch of the Mangrove Teachers’ Manual at the ministry’s boardroom on tomorrow.
The month’s activities also feature the commissioning of the Linden Kiln drying facility on October 25, NAREI open day on October 27 and will culminate with a tour of the Hope Canal Project on October 28.
