Georgetown: Former Chancellor of the Judiciary, Senior Counsel Keith Massiah died on Sunday. He is survived by his wife and three children.
Mr. Massiah, 93, died on Friday, April 24, 2020 at a city hospital following a period of illness.
The Senior Counsel Keith Massiah was one of the finest legal minds in Guyana and the Caribbean, particularly in the field of administrative law and served as Chancellor of the Judiciary of Guyana from 1984 to 1988 and subsequently as Attorney General.
Apart from serving in these capacities, Senior Counsel Massiah served as a lecturer of the Law Department at the University of Guyana for several years. He taught Administrative Law and Employment Law.
President David Granger in a statement said he is saddened at the death of former Chancellor of the Judiciary, Mr. Keith Massiah, OR, SC.
He was awarded Guyana’s second highest honour — the Order of Roraima (OR) — for service of an exceptionally high quality and beyond the normal call of duty in the administration of Justice and in the field of law.
President Granger expresses heartfelt sympathy to Mr. Massiah’s wife, Mrs. Maureen Mae Massiah, CCH, his three children, three grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
