Georgetown: Several hardcore activists of the Working People’s Alliance, a Former Police Commissioner a pellet riddled attorney and a number of new faces will make up the composition of A Partnership for National Unity parliamentarians when the 10th Parliament is convened come January. Gone are several stalwarts and former parliamentarians Mervin Williams, Aubrey Norton and Anthony Vieira. There are speculations that the three were strategically excluded due to their open support for the late Winston Murray who was vying for party leader up to the time of his death. Reports also suggest that Norton was sideswiped as a Parliamentarian in the coming House because he has already served in that capacity for 14 years. Leader of the People’s National Congress Reform Robert Corbin is said to have had a significant hand in the selection process hence the belief that ‘the Murray’ supporters were overlooked.
Some of the Candidates that did make the cut to serve as parliamentarians in the 10th Parliament are: Attorney-at-Law James Bond, who was riddled with rubber pellets during a recent protest march; GYSM Chairman Chris Jones, Annette Ferguson, Ronald Bulkan, Sydney Allicock and Renis Morian. Former Commissioner of Police Winston Felix and Former Guyana Defence Force Major Joseph Harmon will also be serving alongside the Brigadier (rtd) David Granger who will be the leader of the Parliamentary Opposition.
Among the newcomers to the House are Working People’s Alliance hardcore activists Dr Rupert Roopnarine who served as the coalition’s Prime Ministerial Candidate, Dr. David Hinds and Desmond Trotman. The returning MPs are Volda Lawrence, Dr. George Norton, Dawn Hastings, Keith Scott, Africo Selman, Jennifer Wade, Amna Ally, Vanessa Kissoon, Basil Williams, Clarisa Riehl, Deborah Backer, Joan Baveghems as well as former Finance Minister in the PNC Government Carl Greenidge. The PNCR Chairman Bhiswhashirar ‘Cammie’ Ramsaroop will also occupy a seat.
