Former WI cricketer, Runako Morton laid to rest

St. Kitts Nevis: After a five-hour home-going service was held for former West Indies cricketer, Runako Morton, his body was laid to rest at the St. George’s Anglican Church cemetery on Saturday, The St. Kitts Nevis Observer reported.

Hundreds of people turned out at the Elquemedo Willett Park to pay their last respects to the cricketer, whose body laid in a shiny blue casket with a large flower arrangement placed on top. Tributes started at around 12 pm, from ceremony organizer Ashley Farrell; former Morton schoolmates from the Joycelyn Liburd Primary and Gingerland Secondary schools; members of the Nevis Cricket Association and Pennyless All-star Cricket Club; former West Indies cricketer Carl Tucket; former teammate Omary Banks; and the Hon. Mark Brantley, according to the Observer report.


The formal service began with a congregational song, followed by a second round of tributes given by the Leeward Island Cricket Association; cricketer Chris Gayle; Hon. Hensley Daniel; the Right Hon. Denzel Douglas; Premier of Nevis, Hon Joseph Parry; Morton's sister, Midge Morton; Hon. Chief Justice Hugh Rawlins; and the St. George Anglican Church choir.

The eulogy was delivered by leader of the Concerned Citizens Movement Hon. Vance Amory, who said that the Runako he knew was “unique and special".

Following the eulogy, Canon Alson Percival delivered the sermon, the Observer stated.
