Bartica: Four miners are missing in the Cuyuni river after their boat capsized on Saturday morning. However, three survived the tragedy. Transport Minister Robeson Benn noted that the boat approached several rapids and falls in the river which cause the tragedy.
Adding that Police and rescue teams were immediately dispacted, Benn noted that the Guyana Defence Force was also dispatching with a helicopter.
The Maritime Administration (MARAD) has joined with the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) in the rescue mission. The GDF helicopter which has been deployed, will conduct an aerial search of the area.
According to reports coming out of the Cuyuni/Mazaruni Region 7, the vessel, laden with supplies, was heading to gold mining operations upriver.
