After an intensive one year Orthopaedic Technician Training Course, the fourth batch of students graduated recently at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
The course encompassed two components; one aimed at training new participants to become orthopaedic Technicians while existing technicians were upgraded with orthopaedic scrub training.
The course was also extended to persons within the various regions of Guyana and the Caribbean. Regional participants are expected to assist doctors to prepare patients prior to being transferred to the GPHC for treatment.
The newly trained technicians will assist orthopaedic surgeons in the operating room and clinics, and during ward rounds and while on- call. Technicians have also been familiarised with the instruments needed for the preparation of trays for the total knee and hip replacements among other orthopaedic surgeries.
