Fraud charge against former Housing Minister adjourned

Georgetown: The Special Organised Crime Unit (SOCU) has once again adjourned the fraud charge against former Housing Minister; Irfaan Ali has been adjourned to February 06, 2019.

According to prosecution, this is to facilitate a request made by prosecutor for the Special Organised Crime Unit, Patrice Henry, who told the court that SOCU was not ready with the statements as promised.

He is being represented in court by Attorneys-at-law Devindra Kissoon, Priya Manickchand, Anil Nandlal, Jaya Manickchand and Sase Gunraj.

Ali is on self-bail for allegedly conspiring to defraud the government of a total of GYD$172.6M by selling lands below their valued prices.

Ali faces 19 indictable charges for conspiring with unknown persons to sell lands at Goedveragting-Sparendaam, East Coast Demerara for GYD$39.8M.

SOCU said the lands were valued a total of GYD$212.4M at the time of their sale.
