West Coast Demerara : At about 12:20 am today businessman Abdool Hamid, 39 years of Meten-meer-zorg, West Coast Demerara, reported to the police that a gang of men were breaking into his business place at Meten-meer-zorg.
The police responded and as they approached the area, members of the gang ran in different directions in their bid to escape. The police gave chase and one of the ranks caught up with one Ramesh Persaudof De Kendren, WCD, who attacked the rank with a piece of wood and began to lash him about the body.
The 39 year old Persaud continued his attack on the policeman despite being called upon to desist, causing the rank to resort to the use of force and he discharged a round from his service firearm which struck Persaud to his right side. Persaud has been admitted a patient under guard at the Georgetown Public Hospital..
Two other men were arrested by the police and are in custody assisting with the investigations.
A cutting shears and a length of pointed iron were recovered at the scene by the police.
