Garbage collectors still on strike-city stink

Georgetown : There continues to be a heavy pile up of garbage around the city of Georgetown over the past week as private garbage collectors down tools.

The contractors move came after the Mayor and City council (M&CC) owes in excess of $50M for the period of March to June.

The Ministry of Local Government has given the M&CC three garbage trucks to assist in the meantime to have the problem rectify.

Georgetown Mayor Hamilton Green is claiming that funds to pay contractors are being delayed by the Local Government Ministry a claim the Ministry denies.

Over the past four years President Bharrat Jagdeo has been bailing out the M&CC in similar situations.
