Georgetown– Drivers are now faced with rising fuel cost that has gone from $950 per gallon to $1015 per gallon over the weekend. Minibus operators are likely to enforce their demand for an increase in fares since fulling a tank of gas now will require an expenditure of almost $14,000. Minister Manniram Prasad had indicated that once the price move pass the $1000 mark, the fares will increase. Global condition has been blamed for the state of affairs, with Japan's crisis and the war in Libya. Stock markets have plummeted causing a serious shortfall in trading resources. Guyana is expected to be faced with higher prices for Japanese vehicles and spare parts. The cost for automotive fluids is also expected to rise.
