Gates locked as Tunapuna Hindu School impasse continues

Tunapuna: An unofficial day off for hundreds of students at the Tunapuna Hindu Primary School today, as parents, students and teachers were greeted with locked gates when they showed up for school this morning.

School principal Gajadarsingh Nanga who was also expeected to resume duties this morning upon approval from the Teaching Service Commission was a no show.

Reports say she did not receive an official letter from the Teaching Service Commission that she should return to her post.

The school keys are also in the possession of Maha Sabha Secretary General Sat Maharaj and the school will remain closed until the situation with the principal is resolved but parents who gathered at the school's compound this morning say they do not want Nanga to return to the school and will keep their children away until she is removed.

Nanga has claimed that she is being persecuted by the Hindu board because of her decision to allow students and staff of African descent. The board claims however that she has been going against their wishes in some of her actions.
