Georgetown: The Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) has honoured former member and Coach of Amazon Warriors, Carl Hooper for his contribution to the club as well as to the overall development of the sport in Guyana. On Tuesday, a team from the club handed over a plaque and a golden pendant of their emblem during a simple ceremony at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.
Hooper, former West Indies Captain, expressed gratitude for the recognition and renewed interest to make financial and other contributions to the GCC. He explained that he has connections that could allow for the provision of gear and related items for use by the club.
Executive Member, Les Ramalho stated that there are ongoing efforts to make improvements of facilities; however these have not come without challenges. “As you know the club is going through a lot of hardship, ever since test cricket was removed from there; we do not have the same amount of members as we had before, as such contributions are not as forthcoming,” Ramalho expressed during a brief exchange with Hooper.
Hooper has committed to making an undisclosed initial financial contribution, after the ongoing CPL matches in Guyana. There was also a commitment for follow-up provision of gears and other items.
Carl Hooper, the former West Indies captain was earlier this year appointed coach of Guyana Amazon Warriors for the 2015 edition of the Caribbean Premier League.
