Georgetown: The Guyana-Cuba Solidarity Movement (GCSM) stands in support with Cuba in the aftermath of an explosion of two fuel tanks in the industrial zone of the province of Matanzas, east of the capital, on Friday last.
The tragedy that left more than 120 injured, one dead so far, while 17 people are missing. The fire broke out around 7:00 p.m. local time last Friday, when lightning struck one of the facility’s crude tanks.
President of GCSM Halim Khan conveyed his condolences to the Cuban people and government while expressing his confidence in the island’s proven capacity to face difficulties and obstacles.
The Cuban President, Khan noted has reported that they have been in contact with “friendly countries with experience in the oil issue”.
He explained a Boeing 737-700 of the Mexican Air Force arrived at the Juan Gualberto Gómez international airport, with 62 soldiers and 16 technical specialists in the oil area along with other countries offering various assistance.
