The aircrafts arrived to the traditional water salute and commanded by GDF pilots, Majors Mohinder Ramjag, Miguel Benjamin, Paul Dalgety and Captain Lloyden Layne. The engineering part of the team consisted of Captain Damon Joseph, Warrant Officer Class Two Roopnarine Boohdoo and Civilian Rodindradat Lall.

The aircrafts, which have been assigned registration markings 8R-GWJ and 8R-GBW, are especially suited for Guyana’s rough interior terrain and also allows for Short Takeoff and Landing (STOL).

They are also specially prepared for paratrooping and airborne operations.

The acquisition of these additional aircrafts fits in to President David Granger’s Total National Defence Policy, in which he had committed government’s support to the re-organisation and strengthening of the GDF on five pillars: personnel, readiness, infrastructure, morale and equipment, with emphasis on the Air Corps, the Coast Guard and the Engineer Corps
