Georgetown: The Guyana Defence Force Friday continued its planned series of route marches as part of its training preparations for its upcoming Force Exercise. The event saw ranks drawn from the fighting arms of the Force marching in Region 6 in two cohorts; one group marched from Line Path, Corentyne to Springlands while the other group marched from Albion to Rose Hall.
This weekend the residents of the Berbice Community will see the servicemen in other roles. Military Expos are planned at Skeldon, Corentyne and Liverpool Corentyne on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th Oct respectively. These activities will feature parachute jumping, band concerts and medical outreaches. It is envisioned that through these efforts residents will be imbued with an increased sense of nationalism and will be motivated to join the Reserve Subunits in their Region. This opportunity to serve will allow locals to play an active role in national defence and security. The Chief of Staff , Brigadier Phillips in an earlier comment stated “it is now necessary, that all our regions have reservists to readily reinforce the regular Force to secure our borders and effectively harness the talents of residents to respond to national disasters such as floods and other environmental hazards” The Force is therefore optimistic that residents here and in the other regions will join the growing pool of reservists.
The Military Expo will be at Bayrock, Linden on October 10.
