Georgetown: The Guyana Elections Commission is currently conducting a workshop for political parties to gear up for nomination day. The objectives of the workshop is to highlight features of the new electoral system. To familiarise participants with the requisite forms to be submitted on nomination day. To equip participants with the right knowledge and skills necessary for the completion of the forms. The participants will be provided with the procedures involved in the accurate preparation and submission of their lists of candidates. The workshop also seeks to enable participants to identify defects in the lists and outline the consequences of incorrect or untimely preparation and submission of the list of candidates. In his remarks at the opening of the workshop, Chairman of Gecom Dr. Steve Surujballi said that there is no margin for mistakes in preparation for the elections and that political parties must take all necessary precaution not to breach the rules hence face severe consequences, since the Chief Elections Officer has been mandated to deal with any breach.
