Gecom proposes date for elections amidst calls for total disclosure on it’s preparedness.

Georgetown: As the political opposition continue it's call for a full disclosure by Gecom in it's preparation for the 2011 elections,Chairman of the Guyana Elections Commissions, Dr. Steeve Surujbally says Gecom will be ready for the hosting of the 2011 regional and general elections by November 14 but that date has to be confirmed by President Bharrat Jagdeo. Gecom says that it has also committed to the execution of continuous registration next year, which will enable its readiness for the hosting of local government elections. According to reports GECOM’s time table a possible date for Guyanese to go to the poll would be by mid November, but the final decision rests in the hands of President Bharrat Jagdeo.

Nomination is set to be some thirty days before the elections. Meanwhile, parliament is expected to be dissolved by late September by which time the bills to be dealt with would have been covered.
