Georgetown: In recognition of the indefatigable work being done by the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) in preparation for the professional, free, fair and transparent conduct of the May 11 General and Regional Elections, His Excellency, the High Commissioner of India to Guyana, Mr. V. Mahalingam, presented to the Chief Election Officer, Mr. Keith Lowenfield a cheque to the value of GUY$10 250 000. This contribution will be utilized by GECOM in aspects of its Civic and Voter Education programme. Moreover, it will be used to ensure that adequate provisions are in place during the elections to facilitate persons living with disabilities, and for activities associated with Polling Day itself.
On receiving this contribution, the CEO conveyed the heartfelt thanks of the Commission and Staff of the GECOM Secretariat, and promised to judiciously use of the funds provided by the High Commission of India to further serve the Guyanese people through the competent, proficient and professional delivery of GECOM’s Civic and Voter Education Programme.
The High Commissioner of India was accompanied by his Second Secretary (Politcal, Culture, Information, Consular and Head of Chancery), Mr. S.M. Joshi.
