Georgetown : Having processed 1,809 out of 2,299 Statements of Poll (SOPs), the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM), last evening announced another set of the preliminary results for the 2015 general and regional elections held on May 11.
According to the Chief Election Officer, Keith Lowenfield, the commission has been unable to provide information on all of the 2299 SOPs, because of the dynamism of the environment, relative to the recount that was requested by the People’s Progressive Party (PPP/C).
He said that the PPP/C had initially requested to the Returning Officers for a recount of Districts 1, 2 and 8. However, another request was made earlier today for the remaining districts. Lowenfield added that the recount was completed in Districts 1 and 2.
However, he said that the Returning Officers are still to respond to the counting agents of the various political parties, indicating if they will entertain a recount or not.
The Chief Election Officer said that the remaining 490 SOPs will be processed in the morning. Ninety Seven (97) SOPs are yet to be processed for District Five; 22 for District Six, 63 for District Seven; and 1 for District Eight.
