Georgetown: The Guyana Girl Guides Association (GGGA) hosted a Suriname Girl Scout Group for a seven days Camp in Guyana at the Guyana Girl Guides Pavilion, Brickdam. The Suriname Guiders arrived on Tuesday, September 3, 2013.
The contingent is made up of a total of 59 Brownies and Girl Guides, accompanied by five leaders. The girls and young women are enjoying the sights, sounds, culture, cuisine and the history of Guyana. They have visited the Surinamese Ambassador, the Suriname Embassy and the CARICOM Secretariat; they had a tour of the Capital City and have also travelled out of town to the Western shores of the Demerara River. On Saturday the Guyana Girl Guides Association hosted a camp fire which allowed the local and visiting associations to have a cultural exchange in song and dance and folklore, in colourful and meaningful costumes. The Surinamese Guides attended a church service at the St. Sidwell’s Anglican Church on Sunday, and will be engaged in other scheduled activities before their departure today, Tuesday, September 10, 2013.
The Guyana Girl Guides Association is very pleased and happy to have their sister Guides as this Camp. It provided an opportunity for the two countries to strengthen their relations and to foster deeper friendships for girls and a greater appreciation for Girl Guiding. Arrangements are being made for a reciprocal camp In Suriname in the coming year.
