Georgetown: As Government remains deadlock on their decision not the increase minibus fares, the route 42 operators plying the Georgetown /Timehri stretch charged an extra $20 on the fare. This was met with an answer by the Government placing several big buses at the park offering free transportation to passengers. The operators lashed out at Minister of Works Robeson Benn calling the move intimidatory. They claim that the Government wants people to feel the pressure instead of making this easier. The operators explained that the circumstances which include high gas prices and maintenance supply for their vehicles resulted in the move to increase fares. While the Government is determined not to answer the cries of operators, most passengers when spoken to, does not have a problem paying the extra charge, since they understand the economic situation. Meanwhile Robeson Benn said that the bis buses will be used in other areas until the operators back down.
