Georgetown : Cabinet Secretary Dr. Roger Luncheon said in light of the Guyana Elections Commission’s submission of an earliest readiness date for election being November 14, and the move to have a code of conduct for political parties contesting the 2011 General Elections, Government has endorsed the said code of conduct.
Registration and elections staff who were subject to ongoing training and whose appointment would be later announced are expected to occupy the more than 2000 polling stations that will be available for the elections.
This number of polling stations according to Dr. Luncheon is an increase over the 1900 odd polling stations of the 2006 general elections.
He also stated that general and regional elections can be expected any date after November 14.
Meanwhile, the Electoral Assistance Bureau and Guyana Public Service Union and two international observers- the Organization of American States and Caribbean Community are to observe the elections.
