Government MP protest Royal visit

Bridgetown.

Hamiliton Lashley the Member of  Parliament  for St  Michael South East,  is boycotting events organized for the Earl and Countess of Wessex during their state visit to Barbados.

The   Government back bencher was absence when Prince Andrew addessed  a joint sitting of Parliament  yesterday morning.

Lashley told Trakker News. he is taking a stand against Britian over its controversial Air Passenger Duty (APD) and its threat to suspend aid to countries that ban homosexuality . 

The veteran MP said his absence from the joint sitting of Parliament was intended to let the British Government know he was angry at the position they are taking against Barbados, small  island states as well as other African countries..

"The British Prime Minister has offended me and in my view has offended most poor Barbadians, I could not sit comfortably and look directly into the faces of the Earl and Countess of Wessex knowing that the Prime Minister of Britian has treated us with scant respect ", Lashley said.

"I am not putting on my suit and shaking royalty's hand just for the sake of it", he added.
