Government help some private sector projects

Bridgetown.

It is almost impossible for the private sector to impetement a project like the Four Seasons without some kind of Government assistance.

This is the view expressed by Professor Avinash Persaud, chairman of Paradise Beach Limited, the company trying to restart the stalled Four Season hotel and luxury villa project which stalled two years ago.

According to Persaud there is a lot of foolishness being said of Government involvement in the project started by British develpoper an s hotel owner Mike Pemberton. and other business partners.

"We are in the greatest recession since the 1930s, there is almost no major strategic investment occuring anywhere where in the world without some form of  government support today,"Persaud told Trakker News.

"There are over 50 projects in the Caribbean and over 40 of those are stalled", he added.

Last week, Persaud accused the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) of playing politics with project , his criticism came after Leader of the Oppostion Owen Arthur , said the public should be told about the huge salaries being paid to some of the people employed at Four Seasons.

Yesterday,  Arthur in a full page newspaper said the Four Season project effectively has no funds of its own and is not achieving any deadlines set.
