Georgetown : Head of the Presidential Secretariat Dr. Roger Luncheon today reiterated Government’s stance on the organisation of civil society’s entities in Guyana.
Speaking at a post-Cabinet media briefing, the Dr Luncheon pointed out the planned attempt to organise the entities which was conveyed to the President through a letter from the chief organiser Phillip Mozart Thomas who sought the support of the administration.
Dr. Luncheon repeated the administration’s rejection and statement “that it disassociates itself from this effort to organise civil society entities in Guyana.”
Meanwhile, the Office of the President (OP), in a statement yesterday, made clear that it is unaware of the existence of the group. The statement added that Thomas, the organiser behind the activity has been found to be of a shady character and that persons and organisations whose names have appeared either as speakers and to whom invitations were sent are unaware of the reason why their names were publicised.
The statement further added that Thomas is known to have publicly declared an interest in replacing Mr. Robert Corbin as Leader of the PNC. Thomas is also known to have “questionable international connections from whom funding is being given to Mr. Mozart for the purpose of this specific event at the Guyana International Conference Centre.”
