Bridgetown.
Barbados is the only Caribbean Community (CARICOM) country to have made a request of the social website, Facebook, for information regarding how its nationals use the facility.
Last Tuesday, Facebook published its first ever Global Government Request Report from the period from January to June this year which showed that Barbados was the only CARICOM country to request user information.
Facebook said the information published related to both criminal and national security requests from 74 countries seeking information on nearly 38,000 accounts. About half of the requests were made by the US government.
The report showed there were three “total requests” from the Government of Barbados in the six-month period and that the requests covered “users/accounts”.
Late last night Attorney General Adriel Brathwaite told Trakker News he was not aware of any request to Facebook from the Government of Barbados for user information.
