Bridgetown.
The Government decision to provide maintence monies for children at the law courts has been described by Minister of Family, Culture and Sports Stephen Lashley, as revolutionary social engineering mechanism.
Speaking in Parliament during a resolution for $400,000 to set up a fund for the payment of maintenance to applicants whose child support through the court system have been delayed.
Lashley said the protection of children must go beyond lip-service and the overall intent is not to relieve parents on their obligations.
He told Parliament parents who fail to pay child support would not get off scot -free and will be pursued to ensure they meet their commitments.
The fund will be administered through the magistrate court system, parents can apply for the monies three months after the date on which payments were due.
