Georgetown: Governance Capacity Initiative (EGCI) Minister of Natural Resources, Raphael Trotman and team, last week, met with Advisors from Deloitte Advisory, a consulting firm that is in Guyana to provide support to the Government as it moves forward with plans to enhance the oversight capacity of the Energy Sector. The firm was contracted by the U.S Department of State, under its Energy Governance and Capacity Initiative (EGCI), an interagency effort, which provides a wide range of technical and capacity building assistance to the host governments, which like Guyana, are poised to become major players in the Oil and Gas industry worldwide. During the meeting and engagements the team of Advisors shared key areas of support that can be of benefit to Guyana as it prepares for imminent changes in its energy sector. Some areas discussed include assistance with creating a mechanism for stronger InterAgency collaboration, designing a framework for the establishment of an Oil and Gas Regulatory Agency and Fiscal and Economic Modeling. The team has also met with other Ministers and stakeholders and is planning to compile an inception report on the way forward and has departed after what is considered a fruitful visit. The Government of Guyana is anxious to deepen cooperation under this and other bilateral arrangements as it prepares to enter the slelect group of oil producing nations.
