Georgetown: Several local companies and government agencies are now recognising the need to become ISO 9001 certified to expand their product markets on the international level.
This was according to Director of the Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS), Candelle Walcott-Bostwick who said since the start of 2018; the agency has received more requests from local businesses to implement the ISO 9001 and the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) food safety systems.
Currently, the agency is working with 21 companies to implement the two management system standards.
“It’s a demonstration that our local businesses are now recognizing the need to become certified, they are now opened towards taking that journey of implementing the standard so that they can have access to other markets outside of Guyana,” Walcott-Bostwick said.
The director expressed satisfaction with the support from the private sector including the Chambers of Commerce and the Guyana Manufacturing and Services Association (GMSA), who have been encouraging its partners and other businesses to become ISO 9001 certified.
The ISO 9001 is the international standard that specifies requirements for a quality management system. Organisations use the standard to demonstrate the ability to consistently provide products and services that meet customer and regulatory requirements.
