Georgetown : ‘PICK IT UP GUYANA’ is a slogan adopted by Cabinet as it introduced the campaign, which has a number of elements focusing on the environment, tourism and the retail trade sector.
Head of the Presidential Secretariat (HPS), Dr. Roger Luncheon disclosed that legislation has been introduced concentrating on removing the importation of non-biodegradable packaging materials (styrofoam, plastic and aluminum containers).
“The nation can soon expect a promulgation of legislation that would, in a variety of ways, restrict and prevent the importation of goods that are packaged in non-biodegradable materials,” Luncheon said.
Among the other elements of the campaign would again be legislation and the incentivising, recycling and reuse of non-biodegradable materials. Environmental concerns will be dealt with at the community and retail sector levels.
