GPHC CEO responds to KN article ‘Hydroclave system cost begs for serious query’

Georgetown : The Chief Executive Officer of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, Mr. Michael H. Khan says there was no intent to mislead or misrepresent the facts involved in the Hydroclave Waste Disposal matter.

The cost of the facility was inaccurately quoted as $60millon during a telephone interview with a Kaieteur News reporter. The CEO without reservations admits to having misquoted the cost to have the facility constructed, giving a figure of G$60 million, with the figure of G$16M in mind.

He clarified that the allocation of G$15 million funds from the Health Sector Development Unit (HSDU) was for the construction of the Hydroclave Holding facility, and as was previously stated, the actual procurement of the Hydroclave system was done by HSDU.

The construction of the project was executed in three phases, which included: (a) demolition and disposal of existing bins and structure, construction of new waste holding area, construction of floor slab for main shed and office area, initial construction of steel framed shed; (b) construction of steel framed shed, construction of two reinforced concrete bridges, rehabilitation of fence and gates; (c) materials, electrical and plumbing works, procurement of garbage bins, commissioning (additional visits and training). The actual total cost for the completion of works to the facility was close to G$21M the difference was funded by the Guyana of Guyana.
